Choose Australia to Receive World-Class Education

Australia is the first choice for us Singaporeans when it comes to pursuing higher education in an English-speaking country. The state-of-the-art infrastructure, top-ranked universities and educational institutions, advanced technology, fresh air and water, exotic flora and fauna, down to earth people, and affordable living cost are some of the many reasons why Australia attracts not only us but also international students from all over the world.

Many times, the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings have placed several Australian universities on the list of top 100 universities. Not to mention, the world-class education in Australia ensures that every graduate gets the best job opportunities in Australia and overseas. In fact, Australian degrees and qualifications are highly respected and preferred by Singaporean employers.

Let’s us have a look at the Australian education system!

Highly influenced by the British education system, Australian education is divided into the primary, secondary and tertiary education.

Primary and Secondary Education

In Australia, the school education is similar with some minor variations between territories and states. School education is mandatory between the ages of six and nine. School education is 13 years long and divided into:

  • Primary school: Runs for around seven to eight years, starting at Kindergarten to year 6 or 7.
  • Secondary school: It runs for three to four years, from Year seven to 10 or eight to 10.
  • Senior secondary school: Runs for two years, Years 11 and 12.

Tertiary Education

Tertiary education comprises of both higher education and vocational education and training (VET).

Language

English is the main language of instruction in the Australian education system and the official language of the country. Many schools offer programs in other languages.

Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF)

The education system in Australia is differentiated from other countries by the AQF. Established in 1995, AQF is a national policy that covers qualifications from the tertiary education in addition to the school-leaving certificates; the SSCE (Senior Secondary Certificate of Education).

The policy has ten levels and connects school, vocation education into one national system. This process allows students to move quickly from one level to the next, and from one college to the other, as long as you satisfy the student visa requirements. This also opens choice and flexibility in career planning. All AQF qualifications help prepare students for further studies and working life.

So this is the gist of the Australian education system. To know more about Study in New Zealand or Australia, visa requirements, leading institutions etc., you can speak to an AECC Global consultant. AECC Global has earned a reputation in the market for offering high-class consultancy services.
